28 miles – 50 tacks

I am knackered. I saild from 9am till 5:30pm non stop and am absolutely knackered. It was a beautiful day with very little wind to start with and I mostly sat around at Saxafjärden. Only at about midday the wind picked up and we had a perfect 2-3 Bft, unfortunatley from the direction I wanted to go.

Now sailboats are nifty things, but what they can’t do is sail directly into the wind. You have to zig-zag upwind to get there. And while it might be only 1 mile to go from A to B, Goining upwind will make that double as much. Well, that is what I had today – in plenty. In total about 28 nautical miles and exactly 5o tacks (that’s going from a zig to a zag).

That’s how the ropes looked when I arrived at Yxlan – cool name or what.
