Up and down

The last 2 days I was busy with Akka. I managed a lot, although it is quite astounding how long everything takes. Since space is at a premium, you have to constantly tidy up everything after you have finished a job. Tools go under the starboard settee, materials go under the navigation seat, electrical tools go under the port settee and so on. But it is not a simple matter of putting it there. No, you have stow it very carefully since it will only fit that way.

When you are done tidying everything away, you are outside and need the screwdriver. Down you go, start to carefully pulling out the screwdriver. Up the stairs into the cockpit. Damn, Philips head needed – down you go, extract the right kind of screwdriver – up you go again. Mhm, bigger one needed – down – look around – can’t find the large Philips – where is my head lamp – looking – WHERE IS MY HEAD LAMP –  ah of course in the cockpit – up you go – grab the head lamp – down – head in the locker – ah here it is – up – unscrew. Now I need the pliers and the whole thing starts again. After 30 minutes the whole boat is a bombshell and you tell yourself – time to tidy up and the process starts from scratch.

I think I have been up the stairs a hundred times today to get some stuff from the various stroage areas – uff, I am knackered.

But i got, the main, and genoa up, installed the lazy jacks (small lines dangling from the mast to help stowing the main sail) and installed an echo sounder. I am pretty proud of myself.

An all that in the most wonderful weather – we call it Zauberwetter.
