Akka’s sides have seen better days and some previous owner decided to paint her. This paint is coming off now in places and gives Akka a somewhat mottled effect. I bought some 3M foil that is used in car- and boat wrapping and decided to give it a go. The…
We are enchanted again. Tallinn is a beautiful place, offering not just the medieval wonder of the old city, but also has a vibrant modern city life. Ah, and then there is the food, but more on that later.
Having moaned about the Scandinavian cold weather last year, we are experiencing a prolonged heat-wave. It has been hot for weeks now! Since my arrival in mid-May, I haven’t seen a single drop of rain (there were to short spells of rain at night 2 months back). Uff!
Glorious days! Fantastic weather and a great sailing day brought us into Tallinn. Happy to be here and so looking forward to the excellent food that city has to offer.
The spinnaker on Akka is great. I only started to use it this year as in the past we sailed in the narrow archipelago and last year was a year of lots of wind. I love it. What I also love is the fact that it is probably from 1975!…
After long days of sailing we both got our laptops out to get some work-work done. Therefore not much to report from our lats 2 ports of call Dirhami and Lohusalu. Here some evening impressions .
We have been busy the last 2 days with sailing. On both days the forecast was not very promising, cloudy, rainy, no wind and from the wrong direction. But it turned out the other way. Great conditions and enjoyable.
After a glorious sailing day we arrived at Heltermaa in Hiiumaa (boy, I love those double vowels). We parked Akka in an almost empty harbour! It has spaces for about 60 boats and apart from 3-4 fisherman’s dinghies there are only 2 other boats here. Bit strange but the facilities…
Ah, and there is a lighthouse to climb! A mere 6 Euros for two gets you in! This is quite as steep as the stairs but in the end we enjoyed the climb, view and British engineering.
We have been here before, and we will come back – no question. A charming little island that we got to know last year. Sandy beaches, bicycle rides, excellent seafood at a shack just around the corner. Makes us happy!
