I have been back now for almost a week and time to reflect. What were the highlights of that stunning summer. My best of list 2014
Best sail?
From Rödlöga to Stora Nassa. Completely flat sea and still 4 knots of boat speed. Truly amazing.
Coolest moment?
Arriving at the end of May and getting started. I could not believe that it was actually happening and that I would spend the whole summer on “my” boat. (Actually I still find it hard to believe that I did spend 3 months on my boat 🙂 )
Funniest moment?
Obviously the moment when I downloaded Margit’s & Christian’s photos of day and found these.
Best sunset?
Rödlöga! Just the stuff that you will remember for years and it will get better with every year! One of those beautiful sunsets but with this one there was a boat out with a guy playing jazzy tunes.
Favourite island?
There are so many wonderful islands that it is really difficult to give a “best”. But one I came to again and again is Gällnö. It offers plenty of anchorages, walks has a shop and a bar. In other words it has all a sailor needs.
Hottest time?
Well there was the unbelievable Scandinavian summer that provided enough heat but the hottest was certainly the visit to the sauna with Peter from Suomi.
Scariest moments?
Turning round from sorting out the anchor and noticing that we were about to hit the next island at 3 knots. Actually it was this island that Akka’s keel kissed.
Apart from that stupid thing, I was also pretty scared by the arrival of that front (it actually passed me and I felt only a few drops of rain). This front caused havoc in Stockholm and produced over 60.000 flashed, flooded the underground, broke a big cruiser loose and so on)
And then there was the moment we had to cut the genoa sheet as we were getting uncomfortably close to that lee-shore.
Not so nice moments?
There was the algae situation in the outer archipelago which is really worrying and put a dampener on the swimming. I also some of the cyano-bacterial bloom on Stora Nassa which is not just unsightly but actually poisonous.
Saddest moment?
I guess it was leaving Akka behind for the long winter. I hope I have covered her well and that the winter will be gentle to her.
