I only had an hour to walk around Kaskinen, but I loved it. It has an extremely generous layout and the roads and gardens are just massive. Almost every road could be called an “Esplanade”. It is a very leafy place, but also pretty empty. Peter told me that 1.000 citizens left the town after a large company closed down a few years back, which meant that the population was reduced by one third.
What I also liked was the fact, that every signpost, every road name and every official leaflet was in Finnish and Swedish. The area is populated by a large Swedish community, and about 30% of the people have Swedish as their mother-tongue. Even Navionics shows town names in both languages.
