Greta Thunberg has convinced us and we decided to stop flying short destinations within Europe. Public transport it is for us. And what a great journey it was! A holiday before the holiday actually started.
Vienna to Warsaw by night train (€ 79,-)
Warsaw to Vilnius by bus (€ 14,-)
Vilnius to Riga by bus ( € 9,-)
Riga to Tallinn by bus ( € 16,-)
Sure, it took some time (Sun 22:10 – Thus 13:00), but we packed in a lot of sightseeing too. We only changed over at Warsaw and had no time to visit the sights there. But we stayed for 2 nights at Vilnius and a night in Riga – and we loved it.
Ah yes, the price. A flight would have cost about € 200,- to 250.- and so it is actually cheaper by train and bus. Of course you have to add in the costs for hotels, museums, taxis, restaurants etc. and it adds up. But boy did we see more than the inside of an areoplane.
