Sailing in the Swedish archipelago has a very unusual way of tying up at the rocks. Since the Schären are partly very steep, it is possible to sail right up to the rocks and dock as if it were a jetty. This is a bit nerve-racking as you never know if it really is deep enough or if there is a rock somewhere underneath.
When I came into the north bay at Ängsö, I decided to give it a go on my own.
Very slowly I motored towards a promising looking spot and held the boat in check by the anchor. I walked forwards once or twice to check and finally made it all the way to the Schäre. There I jumped off, tied the boat to a tree, climbed back on the boat and switched the engine off. Back on land I secured the second land-line and bobs your uncle. YEAH!
There is another meter spare underneath Akka’s keel.
You must have nerves of steel! Was it hard climbing back onto the nose or is the rock steeper than it looks in that picture?
