Little black number

P8151928_aNormally a little black number is a simple and often quite short cocktail dress but on Akka things are different. Here they are 2 small black hand-towels.

Initially an oversight by the skipper to bring some towels in 2014, the 2 small hand-towels he bought from the local supermarket proofed much superior to the standard beach-towels. Again and again he is non-plussed by the simplicity and ranks the solution as revolutionary as that by Coco Chanel.

Here are the reasons why 2 small hand-towels onboard are better than a large bathing-towel.

  1. 2 small towels dry faster than 1 large towel.
  2. A large towel cannot be hung so easily inside the boat as 2 small ones.
  3. A large towel offers more wind-resistance when hung over the guard-wire and is more likely to be blown off.
  4. Should the wind blow off your large bathing-towel, you are left without any. By using 2 small ones, the chances are that you will be able to rescue the second one before it disappears also.
  5. After a swim in the sea all you need to dry off quickly is one small towel – as it will be hot anyway.
  6. The little loop to hang-up the towel rips much more easily off with a large towel as the weight is greater and your are more likely to tread on it as it hangs down to the floor.
  7. The 2 small towels can be hung on the upright tiller from their little hoops and cannot be blown away and do not use up any pegs.
  8. The colour black offers weeks of usage whereas beach-towels are usually garish affairs that do not hide the odd stain so well.
  9. The packing of 2 small towels is much easier than one large one as they a) take up less space, b) can be used to fill the odd spare corner in your luggage and c) are ideal for wrapping a bottle of gin in it.
  10. When doing the laundry and the washing machine is already full to the brim, 1 towel can be removed and saved for the next wash.

There you go. Next time you come onboard Akka bring your little black numbers.
