We always avoided Sandhamn in the past as it has a reputation to be for the super-rich. Apparently they do sell more liters of champagne than beer during the midsomar parties, which does underline the point. And it is true, a lot of helicopters do land and take off from the jetty, but at the same time it can’t quite compete with Lech/Arlberg. It all seems semi-finished and a half-hearted attempt of being the Swedish sailing-Mekka. The Austrian-born tourist-expert does spot a lot of missed opportunities. Where they do excel though is in setting the prices. I just paid € 7,00 for a small beer!
What I did not know however was, how utterly charming the little village is. It feels like stepping into a Swedish film-set, red houses, well tended semi-wild gardens, lovely little alley-ways, omni-present Swedish flags, all that is missing are Pipi, Annika and Tommy!
