Decision to go home

My back is not getting better, so I went to Hanko hospital to get more effective painkillers. We decided to cut our holiday short and to keep Akka for the winter at Hanko. Ideally we would have liked to keep her at Tallinn but the weather forecast ist bad (20 knots+ and nasty waves), which we did not want to risk with my back playing up. So, our guests packed their things and jumped onto a train to Helsinki/ferry to Tallinn.

In the morning, 20 minutes after their departure, I checked the forecast again and it was OK! 15 knots with an improving angle to Tallinn. So while our friends were on the train Victoria and I headed out to brave the seas. In the beginning it was hard going beating into the wind and wave, and on the starboard tack we only managed 3 knots or so. But after 3-4 hours we were out in the open sea on port tack with a better angle from the waves. From this time onward we never went under 6 knots. All in all we managed the 62 miles in 10 hours – a record for Akka.
