Vaxholm calls itself the capital of the archipelago. And true to this claim it lays it on for me. I arrived in windy conditions, some friendly Finnish sailors helped me to moor safely next to them. An extremely friendly welcome at the harbour office continued the good impression. The harbour master (a student of not more than 20 years) told me that there is a steamship festival on tonight and that it’s going to be a huge event. Later I found out that the Swedish prince Carl Phillip is to get married this weekend and that the party is to be held in Vaxholm castle with Avici (a Swedish world-famous DJ), fireworks and all.
While I sorted out some extra mooring lines, I was approached by a fellow Austrian telling me that after living in Sweden for 30 years, this is only the second Austrian boat he has seen here in Vaxholm. (The other was a guy from Linz who came with his motorboat all the way from the Danube, Rhein, Main and the Baltic – much more impressive). We met again for a beer before the steamship festivities and rounding the evening up with another one. Later today he will pop around and invite me to his flat for a coffee.
Here the friendly Peter from Traunsee.
