Margit and Christian took us on a scenic route from Ängsö to Furusund where we refueled and bought some provisions. A short, nice and easy sail and a perfect maneuver at the petrol station. (pumping the air by Christian).
After that we failed the intelligence test as we did not have enough money at the supermarket and had to go back to the boat to fetch some more (Less pumping the air by all three of us). But all was settled in good time and we were off again. And boy were we off. The wind had picked up to a 4-5+ Bft and we went through the exercises of reefing all the way down to reef 2. We still made over 7 knts though. It always amazes me how much easier Akka can be handled with smaller sails but that the boat speed stays pretty much the same.
Once on Granhamn the usual procedure got under way. Swimming, snorkeling, gravad lax snacks and so on.
From a previous visit I knew that there is a sandy beach at the eastern part and some stone carvings at the northern end, so off we went.
In the olden days Granhamn was an island with a tavern and boats waited there for better winds before crossing the baltic. The seamen spent some of their time carving the granit rocks with their ships names and dates. Well, I guess they spent a lot of time carving the rock as granit is not known for its easy ‘carveability’. You were in luck with a name like Ole Arn, but for a Christian Johannsson the tavern doors would be shut for a very long time before he finished his name plate.
