We arrived at Ägnö in sunshine this afternoon after a partly wet sail. It looked very thundery in the morning but were spared the actual downpour. As soon as we arrived we made our way to the top of the island. In this part of the the Skärgard the islands are much higher and provide a fantastic view.
What we were not expecting were Eierschwammerl (Pfifferlinge in Germany-German; I am sorry I don’t know the English word for it). They are delicious and Anja was in here element hunting them down in a magic forest. Werner found a also few but I have to report that I did not find any -but then I was mostly looking for full cans of beer rather than mushrooms.
The forest is magical and mstical and and unlike most forests I have seen in Austria or elsewhere. Very, very thick lichen, ferns and moss cover huge blocks of granit which are strewn across a dense coniferous forest – totally wild and, well I can find no other word for it – just magical.
We then had the mushrooms as a starter followed by the traditional Kjötbulla, known by the rest of the world as Ikea’s meat balls.
Sweden really is the Waldviertel on islands.
How did the trip through the channel go?
Lots of ooohs and aaahs 🙂
