… but there are horseflies in paradise. Everything is as it should be apart from quite a lot of pesky horseflies. Annoying. (Maybe it has to do with being an ex-catholic. Sure as hell there would be suffering in a catholic paradise)
On the other hand it was a good day on Akka – we stayed in the sheltered bay at Gisslingo and messed about. First I stitched the genoa on which two seems had come undone. I hope I did this OK. The sailcloth is already very brittle and I was afraid that by stitching along the seam I would create a perforation as one can find on the loo paper. The intended result for the loo paper would have a negative effect on sail performance though.
Here my efforts. You can also see my sewing machine – a very handy tool. It has a needle like a real sewing machine with the hole at the tip. You simply sew by pushing the needle through the material and then you use a the thread underneath to push through the loop generated with the needle, then you pull the needle back and a knot is formed – like in a real sewing machine – amazing. It is called speedy stitcher, but I did not find it very speedy.
Once the sail was done, I dedicated an hour to cleaning the deck by which time it was 11am and 30 degrees. Which meant that I had to rig some shelter from the sun.
Now I had time to relax and read in the shade and my iPad went for hours without complaining about the heat – all is well on Akka.
To improve my looks for the guests next week, I decided to shave. It took a while but the result surprised me – I look much younger 🙂
Here a selfie and yes, I am in Scandinavia and not in the Caribbean.
