Old Faithful

This morning a very jolly Swedish engineer came over to look at the engine. He was so jolly I couldn’t help thinking that either he was high or life as a Swedish marine engineer must be really enjoyable (the young chap at the checkout in the government booze store was also unbelievably jolly, I have no idea where the Swedish reputation for moroseness comes from, but perhaps you don’t get typical Swedes working in Systembolagen). Anyway, the excellent news is that the engineer thinks that what is causing the white smoke is water in the last load of diesel we filled up on (“Can’t be the engine, it’s working so good, someone has taken very good care of this”). Wolfgang almost burst with paternal pride at hearing Old Faithful thus praised and it’s true that the engine jumps into life with no hesitation at the mere touch of a button, which is more than can be said of me).

And here, in honour of its sterling performance, is a picture of Old Faithful in all its green glory:

Oma left this morning, bravely setting off for Stockholm on the bus – the sunshine left with her and the wind got up and I was very glad we were spending the day in the harbour.

And here is our friend the jolly engineer who has just brought round a water separator to stop the white smoke.
