Off to Vaxholm

I t was a short night last night, not because the weather was keeping me up, on the contrary, a very calm night, but because I was invited at Eja and Peter for some coffee and whisky. I finally got to bed at midnight.

So, after a short sleep I did some work from 5am onwards and then I raised the anchor at 8 am and set sail for Vaxholm. Initially it was a very nice sail, but just before Grinda the wind freshened up and it came straight onto the nose (I mean I had to tack into the wind).

I was thinking about reducing sail (i.e. reefing down = reducing the sail area) as it was about 5-6 Bft and it was getting uncomfortable. I decided however to take the sails down and motor the remaining 8 miles or so. I am glad I did because it would have been a long and hard sail to Vaxholm otherwise.

At Vaxholm the marina was very empty and they have mooring lines there – very Mediterranean and for an Austrian sailor a well known way of mooring.

So, here I am and after some snoozing, shopping and sight-seeing I am now eating my supper al fresco and am attracting all the seagulls from Vaxholm.

There seems to be some pre-midsomar party going on in the harbour. So, that’s where I am heading off to later on.

Must dash to party now!
